Master Bond Polymer System UV71DC is a new one component, optically clear UV/RTV curable non-yellowing silicone compound for high performance bonding, sealing and coating. It is 100% reactive and does not contain any solvents or other diluents. When exposed to a source of UV light of appropriate wave length and intensity, it cures promptly to produce clear, durable, flexible, non-yellowing and chemically resistant adhesives, sealants or coatings with excellent electrical insulation properties. Alternatively, RTV cures can be accomplished within 24 hours at ambient temperatures or faster at elevated temperatures. The UV or RTV cured material can be employed over the wide temperature range of -80°F to +400°F. It has been formulated to have a refractive index of 1.41.
Unlike many other commercially available UV products, the Master Bond UV71DC polymer system's cure is not inhibited by air and exhibits a desirable fast curing rate at ambient temperatures. Specific cure times depend on the type of UV lamp, the distance of the lamp from the surface of the UV71DC, thickness of section to be cured, etc. Typical UV cure times range from several seconds to 2-3 minutes at ambient temperatures. Maximum absorption takes place in the 280-370 nanometer range. 200 watt/linear inch medium pressure mercury vapor lamps or equivalent UV light sources are recommended. No solvents or vapors are released during the curing process. Cured adhesives exhibit a most desirable combination of properties including outstanding durability, flexibility, thermal shock resistance as well as excellent adhesion to many different substrates ranging from glass and aluminum to polyester films and polycarbonates. The storage stability of the UV71DC silicone polymer exceeds 3 months under usual storage conditions in their original, unopened containers.
