X-5TC Product Description

Thermally Conductive, Elastomer Based, One-Component Adhesive For High Performance Bonding and Sealing

Master Bond X5TC is an aluminum oxide filled, thermally conductive elastomer-based, one component adhesive for high performance bonding and sealing. This thermally conductive adhesive bonds well in both shear and peel to similar and dissimilar surfaces including metals, ceramics, glass, rubber and most plastics. X5TC is solvent based and has a solids content of approximately 90% by weight. Using X5TC is relatively simple; it should be applied to the surface to be bonded and allowed to sit for about 30 to 60 seconds until a "skin" develops. The parts are then assembled and fixtured. It will cure at room temperature in 8-12 hours or at 150°F in 60 to 90 minutes.

When bonding for optimum storage, all surfaces should be roughened as much as possible, then carefully cleaned and dried before the material is applied. Solvent degreasing is the most common method of cleaning. A convenient way of determining when thorough cleaning has been accomplished is to flow water over a vertically held coated surface. If the water runs off in a continuous film, cleaning is satisfactory.

Master Bond X5TC is very thick but is also flowable. It can be made thinner by adding up to 5% (by weight) acetone or MEK. The cured adhesive has a very high thermal conductivity of greater than 10 BTU•in/ft2•hr•°F. It should be noted that the service temperature range is -75°F to +250°F; although, limited exposures to temperatures from 350°F to 400°F for 15-20 minutes at a time would not be an obstacle for this adhesive.
