Two Component Epoxy CansEpoxies are the most widely used polymeric materials for adhesives, sealants, coatings, pottings and encapsulations and impregnants. They are available in both one and two component systems. Two part systems can be cured at either room temperature or elevated temperature. One part systems must be cured at elevated temperatures (typically 250 - 300°F). One part systems curable by UV light are also available.

One Component Epoxy CansEpoxies offer unique versatility in application and performance. Their most desirable properties include high bond strength to a wide variety of different substrates, outstanding gap filling capabilities, excellent electrical insulation, high chemical inertness and outstanding resistance to shock and vibration. Special formulations are available including systems with thermal conductivity (electrically insulating) for heat dissipation, electrically conductive systems, systems for cryogenic applications, as well as systems with high performance in the most hostile environmental conditions. Viscosities and cure times can be tailored to meet specific application requirements.

UV Curable Systems

UV Curable can & SyringeMaster Bond Inc. has available a fast growing family of one component UV curable polymer systems for high performance coatings, adhesives, sealants, potting and encapsulation. They include polyurethanes, epoxies, polyesters and acrylics. They vary in thicknesses, hardness, chemical resistance, strength, clarity, etc. When exposed to a suitable UV light source, UV curable compounds usually cure in a matter of seconds. The Master Bond products are not oxygen inhibited and cure at ambient temperatures. Environmentally friendly, they are 100% reactive liquids which do not contain any solvents or other volatiles. Upon cure they exhibit minimal shrinkage. Additionally, they are strong, durable, and offer superior temperature and chemical resistance. UV SyringesIf required, special formulations can be developed to best meet specific product application and performance needs. One new "dual cure" compound can be cured by exposure to either UV light or heat.

Master Bond UV curable compounds are one component systems and require no mixing. They have a long shelf life when stored at ambient temperatures in the absence of UV light. They have excellent bond strength to metals, ceramics, many plastics and most rubbers. UV curable compounds are particularly suitable for automated continuous manufacturing processes because of their fast cure speeds.

Anaerobic Adhesives/Sealants

Anaerobic BottlesMaster Bond’s anaerobic adhesives/sealants are single component polymer compositions which harden at room temperature between steel, aluminum, copper and most other metal surfaces. They cure in the absence of air. The compounds are available in a variety of thicknesses, cure speeds, strengths, temperature and chemical resistance properties. They require no mixing and contain no solvents.

Nuts & BoltsMaster Bond anaerobics are primarily used as threadlockers. They prevent screws, nuts, bolts and studs from loosening due to vibration, impact or shock. Anaerobic systems eliminate the use of lock washers and various other fastening devices. These adhesive compositions also retain and seal bearings, bushings, seals, keys and splines. Assemblies are securely and permanently sealed against corrosion and leakage.

Cyanoacrylate Adhesives

Cyanoacrylate Squeeze BottlesCyanoacrylates are single component “instant curing” solvent free adhesives. They cure upon exposure to moisture at room temperature. These adhesives are fast and easy to use. They do not need any mixing or heat and require only contact pressure to obtain durable high performance bonds. Cyanoacrylates perform best when applied as a thin film between two surfaces.

Master Bond cyanoacrylates are available ethyl, methyl and speciality grades. The different grades vary in viscosity, cure speed, strength, etc. They will bond to almost any combination of dissimilar and similar materials including metals, rubbers, most plastics, glass and ceramics. Primers are available to further enhance cure speed and adhesion to certain hard to bond plastics. Master Bond cyanoacrylates are easily applied both manually and automatically. Rapid cure and easy application make them particularly suitable for high speed production applications. One pound of adhesive properly applied can provide for as many as 30,000 bonds.

One & Two Component Silicone Systems

MasterSil Silicone TubeSilicones are elastomeric systems with the unique combination of flexibility and high temperature resistance. They can be used as adhesives, sealants, coatings and potting materials. Silicone systems are either one or two part. One part systems cure by moisture in the air. Two part systems are cured by the polymerization reaction that occurs when a curing agent is added. Generally, the two part systems can cure in thicker sections than the one part systems.

Aside from temperature resistance and inherent high flexibility, other noteworthy properties of silicones include excellent resistance to water, superb electrical insulation properties and sealing/adhesive properties particularly to glass, plastics, metals and rubber (including silicone rubber itself). Their inherent flexibility allows for “repairability” when this property is needed.

Master Bond offers a number of specialty type systems including one part conformal coatings, special fast curing systems, higher temperature resistant specialty systems, thermal conductive systems as well as transparent silicones.

Film Adhesives & Preforms

Film PreformMaster Bond Inc. manufacturers a line of epoxy film adhesives and preforms. These newly developed formulations include electrically conductive and thermally conductive compounds as well as structural adhesive films. The cured epoxy products offer excellent bond strength to both similar and dissimilar substrates along with high moisture and chemical resistance. They have fast cures at moderately elevated temperatures and long storage stability even at ambient temperatures, although refrigeration is preferred.

Film PreformMaster Bond epoxy films and preforms are easy to use, enhance productivity, simplify handling and reduce waste. They are applied as a solid, have no pot life restrictions and are environmentally friendly. When heated, the adhesive cures in place and squeeze out is avoided. Films are available in thicknesses of 2 to 8 mils and up to 16 inches square. Preforms can be laser or die cut to the configuration of any part. Both performance and processing characteristics are reproducible from lot to lot.

Master Bond’s experienced technical staff can custom formulate these high performance epoxy films and preforms to best meet specific application requirements. Grades can be adjusted for flexibility, electrical and thermal properties, temperature resistance, and chemical resistance, etc. Master Bond epoxy films and preforms are used in the computer, aerospace, telecommunications, automotive, electronic, military and optical industries. Specific applications include printed circuit boards, semiconductor packaging, smart cards, EMI shielding, heat sinking, BGA packages, hybrid assemblies, lid sealing and laminating.
