UV16 Product Description

One Component, High Strength, UV Curable Epoxy Resin Compound for High Performance Bonding, Coating and Sealing with Unsurpassed Thermal Stability, Low Shrinkage and Optical Clarity; Exceptionally Reactive and Very Fast Curing.

Master Bond UV16 is a low viscosity, high strength epoxy based UV curable system for bonding, sealing and coating. It is 100% reactive and does not contain any solvents or other volatiles. It also exhibits no oxygen inhibition. UV16 will cure quickly and easily when exposed to a UV light source with a wavelength range between 320-365 nm, with the optimum at 365 nm. The energy required is typically 20-40 milliwatts per cm². UV16 is highly reactive and will cure exceptionally fast when exposed to UV light. The rate of cure depends upon the distance of the light from the material being cured, the thickness of the section and the intensity of the light source. It typically cures in thickness 0.001-0.002 inches up to 0.120 inches. Thinner sections will cure in a few seconds while thicker sections will normally cure in 30-60 seconds. Because of its fast curing mechanism, it is important to store UV16 in a dark area, avoiding exposure to any light, including sunlight. UV16 is a “cationic” system which will typically have lower shrinkage (1-2%) and higher temperature resistance than the majority of UV systems, which cure by a “free radical” type mechanism. UV16 has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemicals including water, acids, bases, fuels and many solvents. It has superb physical strength characteristics and electrical insulation properties. UV16 has superior adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including plastics, glass and many metals. UV16 has unmatched optical clarity and light transmission properties.

Cationic systems, such as UV16, tend to have much higher temperature resistance than other UV type systems. The glass transition temperature (Tg) with a straight UV cure is 95-100°C and when post cured for 30 minutes at 125°C, the Tg is 135-140°C. This post cure also enhances its chemical resistance. The service temperature range is -80°F to +400°F. It is widely used for a variety of applications in the optical, optoelectronic, aerospace and related industries.
